This family have chosen to hold a private service and are expecting about 40 people that will be mostly family members and some invited friends.  Whilst they want to keep things simple, they do wish to reflect their grandfather’s love of tractors, therefore his favourite 1957 Massey Ferguson tractor is parked under the porte cochere outside the Lakeview chapel. To reflect his love of woodworking in his retirement the family chose a solid timber coffin and instead of flowers they displayed some of the wooden toys he made for charity. The family will supply photos and music to our graphics team to create an audio-visual tribute and service sheets. A celebrant will lead the service, keeping it low key in line with the family’s wishes. At the conclusion of the ceremony they will make their way around to the Bridgeman lounge for morning tea.

Funeral Scenario 4 - $5324.00

The person who died did not wish to have a funeral. They didn’t want to cause any fuss or leave any financial burden for those left behind. Wanting to be respectful of this decision the family opted for a non-attended cremation. Family and friends expressed a wish to have a short viewing at our funeral home. After meeting with the family to determine their needs, we transferred the person from their place of rest to our funeral home and after basic mortuary care placed them in a very simple casket and arranged for the viewing. We took care of all the legal requirements such as gathering the medical and cremation documentation and permissions, registered the death, and then proceeded with the Cremation. There was no notice placed in the Courier Mail, no flowers, no service sheets.

Knowing what we know now about the importance of a funeral service when it comes to meeting the needs for mourning it would be our hope that this family despite not having a formal funeral service would find an opportunity to do something on their own to mark this life. This could be as simple as gathering together at home and sharing memories or going out to dinner as a family or having a memorial service at another time.
